ACTIVITIES ON THE FARM

Animals that can be found on the farm is Nyala, Impala, Grey Duiker, Red Duiker, Baboons, Warthog, Steen Buck, Hippo – freely roaming, Nile Crocodiles – freely roaming, Spotted Hyena – freely roaming, Leopard – Freely roaming, Bush pig.

BIRD WATCHING

For the birders we have a wide verity of bird species on the farm, such as
Speer wing duck, Crested guineafowl, Firry nightjar, Fan-tailed widowbird, Gorgeous bush-shrike,Grey-tit flycatcher, Mocking cliff chat, Narina trogon, Red-collared widowbird, Red-winged starling, Southern bald ibis, Southern tchagra (NE), Spotted thick-knee, Rudd’s apalis, Trumpeter hornbill, , White-throated swallow, Wire-tailed swallow, Woodland kingfisher
Red-billed oxpecker, Yellow-throated longclaw

Bird watching is good all year round, but at its best from November to April, when Eurasian and intra – African migrants are present.

ACTIVITES OFF THE FARM

Hluhluwe – Umfolozi Park

Hluhluwe–Imfolozi Park, formerly Hluhluwe–Umfolozi Game Reserve, is the oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa. It consists of 960 km² (96,000 ha) of hilly topography and is known for its rich wildlife and conservation efforts. The park is the only state-run park in KwaZulu-Natal where each of the big five game animals can be found.
Due to conservation efforts, the park in 2008 had the largest population of white rhinoceros in the world
Entrance to Game Reserve:
Summer: Nov to Feb from 5:00 to 19:00
Winter: Mar to Oct from 6:00 to 18:00.

EMDONENI CAT & CHEETAH PROJECT

Come join in for an up close and personal tour and learn more about South Africa’s endangered wild cat species. Come and be mesmerised by the beauty of the Caracal (Lynx), enchanted by the playful Serval, astonished by the speed and agility of the Cheetah and delighted by the African Wildcat. View and photograph these amazing animals at the Emdoneni Cheetah Project. We offer educational tours daily. Feeding to the smaller cat species during the afternoon tour as well as an informative talk about the animals and the project by an experienced guide. No cheetah feeding will be done for viewing.

ZULU CROC & REPTILE PARK

Set in safe and tranquil surroundings, the park meanders through cycad lined pathways, leading to a variety of secure, spacious, and well-maintained crocodile enclosures where the guides are always on hand to answer any questions and offer assistance if needed. A Restaurant with delicious meals, bar, curio shop’ clean restroom facilities are also available. Zulu Croc is also proud of their brand new mini golf. A new addition to Zulu Croc is their Game Park. Game like wildebeest, Bless buck, Impala, Nyala, Grey Duiker, Red Duiker, Reed Buck, Zebra, Giraffe, Water Buck & Kudu can be seen. – Game drives is available daily with a minimum of 4 people. Bookings is essential.

Lake St Lucia

Home to more than 800 Hippo’s, 1000 Nile Crocodiles and an abundance of Bird species. This area is accessed from the town of St Lucia.
The ideal place to be memorised by the African Sunset.

Sodwana

This area is known as the top diving destination in South Africa. With numerous reefs and incredible selection of fish species it is no wonder.
Situated in the northern section of iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

False Bay

Open Savannahs, thornveld and sand forest make up this marvellous area. These habitats provide excellent bird-watching and are home to an abundance of smaller game species. This is an excellent place to view many species of birds and butterflies. Birders regard iSImangaliso as one of the finest places to spot African broadbills, and colourful species such as the gold-banded forester and forest queen are found in the area. Visitors can also see one of the country’s few remaining pink-backed Pelican colonies here. Two self-guided walking trails have been established to allow visitors to enjoy the full benefit of the area.

Western Shores

This is a Big 4 Reserve with Buffalo, Rhino, Leopard and Elephant. The Western Shores Reserve is situated just outside of St Lucia Town prior to entering the village. An incredible and magnificent area to wonder and explore. Numerous loop roads make for some adventurous safari’s.

Eastern Shores – Cape Vidal

Accessed from the town of St Lucia, this impressive and incredible reserve is home to the African Big 4, Rhino, Buffalo, Elephant and Leopard. This is one of the very few reserves that offer both wildlife sightings and access to the pristine beaches of Zululand. Home to the second highest vegetated dunes. Snorkelling, Game Viewing, Turtle Tours, Fishing, Whale Watching and much more.
